TEAM Technology Australia Pty Ltd 1997-2009
TEAM was an acronym for Total Enterprise Asset Management. The name was a natural systems-integration extension of the Enterprise Asset Management movement.
TEAM Tech specialised in plant and process optimisation using OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) measures. The US Navy created and implemented OEE to keep ships, planes and bases in a maximum sustainable operating state during times of war and peace.
The concepts are directly applicable to fixed and mobile plant in the mining and refining industries. The challenge was easily stated - maximise production without breaking the plant. It's a balancing act between time, load and design capacity. Where time is typically a function of availability defined by preventative/corrective maintenance cycles.
Alumina, copper, gold, nickel, oil and gas refineries are all complex pieces of equipment with interdependent systems. Without parallelisation or buffering, then a simple pump or valve failure can bring the whole system down. Managing both load and plant maintenance cycles becomes critical to keeping the plant running at optimum capacity. It's important to note, plant optimisation is not always about running the plant at full speed.
